‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’ (2016, 15)

The movie adaption of one of the best-loved UK comedies, is ‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’ a star-studded spectacular or an unfashionable flop?

Patsy (Joanna Lumley) and Edina (Jennifer Saunders) are still trying to claw back their youth as they live the high-life in their London house, moving from one fashion-show to the next. But, after their money dries up and Eddy is blamed for pushing the supermodel Kate Moss into the River Thames, the pair must escape to the French Riviera – in the most fabulous way possible!

First off, this film is very funny. It’s packed-full of humour and subtle references that’ll make you crack-up, more so than other ‘comedies’ that have come out in recent times. It’s also, as has been noted in the media, full of cameos and celebrity appearances which add to the fun and laughter this film provides. It’s not necessarily original, but it is hilarious!

This film also has a very specific audience. Fans of the TV Show are sure to love it, however people just looking for a light-hearted comedy maybe less so. Personally, though, I found it a barrel of laughs and would recommend it to anyone.

The plot of this film isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but it needn’t be. The best comedies are simple and understandable, and just full of humour; ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ certainly ticks all these boxes!

Overall, ‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’ is a brilliant comedy full of humour and laugher throughout. For this, I think it deserves nine-out-of-ten – a great film, but not everyone’s cup of tea.

9/10.
